Quality Assurance Engineer*


Location: Berlin (Berlin/Germany)

Integrated IT Portfolio Management provides the insight into the portfolio of business strategies to understand what innovative technologies to put on the table. It organizes the IT landscape into manageable and relatable parts for quick insight into change impacts. Finally, IT Portfolio Management enables optimization of the integrated IT portfolio across applications, technologies, services and projects to free up budget for innovation projects.





QA - Process:

  • The QA Process is centred on the half-annual releases of Alfabet. Releases are in April and October each year. Either of these releases is providing significant new functionality
  • Alfabet is pursuing a rapid development approach. Thus, quality assurance starts testing new capabilities early on in the release cycle. Its feedback is used to improve both software quality as well as functionality
  • The QA process follows the FURPS model covering functionality, usability, reliability, performance and scalability aspects alike
  • Between the two major release dates in April and October patches are released on an as needed basis to correct important errors that have surfaced in customer implementation. One of the main objectives for the QA Organizations is to minimize the number of patches required
  • The QA process comprises aspects of automated test procedures, manual testing and simulations for load testing
  • A defect tracking system is used to log and track progress for customer reported errors, QA identified problems as well as enhancement and change requests



  • The QA organization is not directly involved in the projects delivering solutions to Alfabet customers. All functional tests are designed and performed on the basis of customer abstracted test and demo datasets. The maintenance of the test dataset is obligation of the QA organization
  • The QA organization supports the services organization in resolving problems encountered during the delivery of Alfabet customer solutions






  • Contribute to the implementation of the quality assurance process for an enterprise application supporting IT planning, portfolio management and governance processes in large enterprises
  • Collaborate with product management and development to define use cases and test cases used to conduct quality assurance
  • Implement automation procedures to execute test cases
  • Take a leading role in the software release testing assuring the highest quality for the released standard software
  • Monitor the quality of the software during the development cycle through regular regression tests
  • Collaborate with consulting and customer support to evaluate and prioritize bug reports
  • Support customer service to record and analyse software errors and in the preparation of reference environments for development
  • Liaise with development to identify problem resolution strategies for identified defects
  • Support the documentation team in the production of technical briefs and software manuals


Technical Competencies:

  • Honours 3rd level education degree in Computer Science / BSc
  • 2-3 years of experience in software development, quality assurance, automated testing, and quality management
  • Basic command of C# or another OO programming language
  • Excellent knowledge of relational databases (MS SQL-Server, Oracle preferred)
  • Experience in systems analysis
  • Experience in quality assurance tasks is desirable
  • Experience in any of the following areas is a distinct advantage
    • Tools to support QA processes (MS TFS Test Management, Rational, Mercury, Automated QA …)
    • Automation Testing Tools (SilkTest, Selenium…)
    • Web server (IIS, Apache)
    • HTML & Java script (or any other scripting language)
