The Pre-Sales Manager is accountable for ensuring the day to day activity of the pre-sales function in the UK. The role is to help manage, improve, measure and ensure stability and success of the team and correspondingly the UK sales target. Where possible (considering time and responsibility) you will help the presales team with customer work – a certain level of player-manager is required, but this role is focused around management and leadership.

 

You will be responsible for effective use of the resources in the Pre-Sales Team and for providing advice, guidance and support to the sales organisation.  The role is that of a manager reporting into the SVP for the region UK and Nordics – however this is a UK focused role with limited travel.

 

It is to be noted that your role and that of the team is to deliver the highest quality service to the sales executives, while maintaining the long term integrity of our UK organisation and helping to ensure the delivery of high quality customer engagements.

 

The Pre-Sales Manager will be included in the UK management team, with direct influence on the country’s strategy and planning. As the country run its own P/L, the Pre-Sales Manager will have influence on the regional strategy and execution.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Actively manage the resources of the organisation to maximize the return on investment for Software AG
  • Coordinate and schedule resources in collaboration with other departments within the company, principally GCS, but also specialist international resources
  • Oversee the proper use of internal cross-charge budget assigned for using resources from other cost centers
  • Drive pre-sales meetings, reporting, structure, retention, replacement and ensuring that sales engagements are successful.
  • Oversee and co-ordinate the bid management process where needed to ensure that Software AG is bidding for business that it can win
  • Work with the sales organisation to address any concerns about the presales function in a proactive and positive way
  • Be a focal point for presales
  • Understand SAG technology at a high level and provide support for certain customer meetings – if possible, provide architectural guidance.
  • Where possible, provide coaching and guidance for the pre-sales team to ensure development and promotion of excellence
  • Ensure discipline of excellence and passion throughout the team to create a challenger culture
  • Promote team based working and highest quality standards
  • Hire, manage and encourage all UK presales team members, ensuring the maintenance of “best in industry” position to our strict team based approach and values

 

In addition to the above you may be required to perform other duties as requested by management – it should be noted that although this role does not require that the manager be specifically a deeper level player-manager, but it is certainly desirable in the position and any candidate with this skill will have an advantage.

 

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Educated to university degree or equivalent
  • 5 years plus relevant experience in a similar software environment to Software AG
  • Presales management or other management skill at a relevant high levels of success
  • Excellent customer communication and strategy skills
  • Successful cross culture experience will be a significant advantage
