Senior Consultant

The Principal Consultant has a strong business impact, and is expected to lead high-impact projects in a specific domain area. They are also expected to manage key customer stakeholders, generate new business ideas and contribute to SAG’s delivery methodology (PRIME). Key responsibilities include;


  • 75% Project Delivery: working closely with client and SAG Project Managers to shape and successfully deliver the engagement. This could be in a technical (review, analysis, design, development and delivery of SAG solutions) and/or a team leadership (managing and mentoring the team; executing and completing assigned engagement within the time, scope and budget) role, to meet client expectations


  • 15% Business Development: Deliver professional technical advice / presentations to customers in support of sales colleagues; develop Proof of Concepts; respond to Request for Proposals; support the scoping and estimation of a prospective engagement; Act as a thought leader


  • 10% Method Development: support the ongoing development of PRIME methodology and local consulting Go to Market propositions


The above, to be conducted in line with SAG’s delivery methodology (PRIME), working on customer site for typically 75% of the time. This is likely to require frequent travel, both within and outside the UK.




  • Provide direction on projects of various sizes and complexity and leadership across organizational and functional boundaries at client site
  • Defining world-class high level strategies & road maps; provide overall architectural vision
  • Leading and execute customer engagements from inception through to completion in line with SAG’s delivery methodology (PRIME)
  • Potentially manage matrix team(s) of consultants toward successful project completion
  • Design Authority for the development and implementation of Software AG solutions for customers and partners
  • Governance to ensure that projects are aligned with SAG’s delivery methodology (PRIME)
  • Supporting the Project Manager with the creation of Statement of Works, estimating and role definitions required for new projects
  • Supporting Sales via technical presentations, workshops, PoC, RFI/P responses etc
  • Contributing to post implementation reviews to incorporate findings into future work
  • Contributing to the further development of SAG’s delivery methodology (PRIME) and Solution Book
  • Mentoring consultants and customers with opportunities provided by the Software AGs products
  • Training and educating end users
  • Identify additional product/services opportunities in customer organization




You should have a First Class or Second Class Upper First degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or appropriate Business Degree.


You should have a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience with some supervisory.


You should have extensive experience in leading technical delivery of services, often within a multi-supplier/vendor ecosystem and leading technical members of a project team and customers delivering end-to-end solutions across all aspects including infrastructure, networks, software and bespoke solutions.





  • Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or appropriate Business Degree
    • Full software development life cycle, across differing implementation methodologies.
    • Working with multiple industry sectors.
    • Working across multiple architectural styles such as API Integration, Micro Services, Event Driven distributed systems, B2B, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience in:
    • Enterprise and Solution Architecture
    • API Management technologies such as:
      • Software AG API-Gateway
      • Apigee
      • Mulesoft
      • Etc.
    • Broad understanding of API Standards including some of the following:
      • OpenAPI / Swagger / RAML
      • JSON API
      • GraphQL
      • OAuth 2.0
      • OpenID Connect
      • REST / SOAP
      • JSON/XML
      • WSDL
      • OData
      • Etc.
    • Integration/API enablement Technologies such as:
      • Software AG webMethods
      • IBM WebSphere
      • Mulesoft
      • Tibco
      • Biztalk
      • JitterBit
      • Etc.
    • Integration techniques and patterns such as:
      • Hybrid/Cloud Integration
      • Integration & Messaging Patterns
      • Enterprise Service Bus
      • B2B Integration
      • Managed File Transfer
    • Development using some of the following languages:
      • Java
      • C#
      • JavaScript
      • TypeScript
      • C/C++
      • Python
  • Eligible and prepared to go through UK security clearance where required
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience in:
    • DevOps (Continuous Integration, Testing & Deployment )
    • Experience of Architecture Frameworks, Development Methodologies and applicable toolsets such as TOGAF, Archimate, Prince2 & Agile, Scrum Development.
    • Industry languages and protocol such as
      • YAML, XML, XSD, XQuery, HTML, CSS, SQL, etc.
    • Industry wide tools such as:
      • Jenkins, GIT, Subversion, Eclipse, TFS, Containerisation, etc.



  • Experience / knowledge of:
    • Internet of Things implementations on an enterprise scale.
    • Business Process Analysis, Management & Business Rules(webMethods or similar)
    • Messaging platforms and standards, e.g. Universal Messaging, ActiveMQ, Kafka, JMS, MQTT, AMQP.
    • Big data / In-Memory Data Management / NoSQL
    • Service & Business Activity Monitoring
    • Experience of Modeling tools and techniques across standards such as, Archimate, UML, BPMN
    • Data-Modeling (SQL/XSD) and data architecture
    • Master Data Management
