Position Purpose

 

Principal Consultant acts as an Integration and API solutions thought leader and designs quality webMethods solutions in a customer-centric manner while leveraging Software AG Professional Services methodologies and best practices. Principal Consultant position necessitates technical solution leadership role in customer projects and team leadership role in Int/API practice. A successful candidate will be able to present customers with a vision (roadmap) for their ESB journey and implementing that roadmap for the Int/API solution. Further a successful candidate will help customers in establishing a strong Int/API foundation, implementing successful solutions, coaching customers on solution best practices, and driving long-term adoption of Int/API. The position also necessitates Interacting with all levels of Software AG as well as customer organization including executive stakeholders (C-level), domain stakeholders (business/system analysts) and technical personnel.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Working in close collaboration with Professional Services Project/Delivery Manager, License Sales, Int/API Product Management, Int/API R&D and Professional Services Sales, Principal Consultant will: 

    • Architect and Technically Lead Integration & API solutions across various Software AG Professional Services offerings in these areas:
      • Foundational Integration and API Projects
      • Foundational B2B/EDI Projects
      • Architecture Assessments
      • Int/API Fast Track offerings
      • Performance Tuning
      • Integration COE
      • Upgrades
    • Lead Int/API solution design and architecture on projects
    • Lead and deliver Int/API Foundational projects
    • Conduct Int/API Architecture Assessment Workshops
    • Conduct Int/API Maturity Assessments
    • Evaluate customers' requirements and develop methodologies & frameworks
    • Support Professional Services Sales in scoping services for delivery of Int/API Solutions
    • Support Presales in Professional Services review of customer use case definition across Int/API core capabilities
    • Support Presales in Professional Services review of Int/API deployment architectures (OnPrem and Cloud)
    • Support customers with webMethods solution capacity planning – OnPrem/Cloud
    • Support customers with Int/API solutions performance testing – OnPrem/Cloud
    • Gather and analyze technical and functional requirements
    • Design and Architect Int/API solutions to meet customer requirements
    • Be hands-on and take on technical tasks for building frameworks and or reusable solutions for customer implementations
    • Support Project Manager with defining and planning required tasks for Int/API Solution delivery
    • Collaborate with Software AG R&D, Product management and Int/API Business Unit teams on products’ features and capabilities
    • Be a Technical Team Lead in Professional Services Int/API Practice in guiding, enabling, mentoring and knowledge sharing with Int/API practice team members
    • Open to mentoring and training Customers on formal educational services courses
    • Contribute to Software AG PRIME Delivery Methodology

The Int/API Principal Consultant may work remotely and/or onsite at the customer location, depending upon specific customer, customer project and project phase.  S/he may be required to travel up to 75% of the time. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities

  • As an Architect, Principal Consultant has a strong business impact and is expected to be accountable for solution architecture and design, and technically lead Integration and API projects:

75% (Approx.) Project Delivery: Working closely with Client and SwAG Project Managers to shape and successfully deliver the engagement. This could be in a technical (review, analysis, design, development, and delivery of SAG solutions) and/or a team technical leadership (mentoring the team; executing and completing assigned engagement within the time, scope and budget) role, to meet client expectations

10% (Approx.) Business Development: Deliver professional technical advice / presentations to customers in support of sales/pre-sales colleagues; support PS Sales and PS Delivery Managers with SOW and LOE development; develop Proof of Concepts; respond to Request for Proposals; support the scoping and estimation of a prospective engagement; Act as a technical and solution thought leader

15% (Approx.) Practice Support: Support practice enablement, junior team member mentoring, knowledge sharing, reusable tools, methodology contributions, and Go to Market initiatives

  • Expertise in Operating Systems – Windows and Unix
  • Understanding of API Management design and methodology(Project experience a plus)
  • Understanding of Microservices Architecture (Project experience a plus)
  • Above-average expertise in Java Programming and JVM aspects
  • Knowledge of general system analysis and design processes
  • Expertise with the Authentication Protocols such as LDAP, SSO (Kerberos, SAML2), SSL collected
  • SOAP, RESTful WebServices, XML/JSON expertise
  • Proficiency with SQL, schemas / meta-models and relational database databases (Oracle or MSSQL-Server preferred)
  • Knowledge of TOGAF and ITIL (a plus)
  • Experience with Cloud platforms (a plus)
  • Expertise in J2EE (a plus)

Skills (SOFTskills)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to effectively convey roadmap, concepts, best practices, and solution-features-benefits of the proposed Int/API solutions to C-Level client executives and stakeholders as well as deep-dive Into technical/architecture aspects with client IT members.
  • Presentation, organizational and planning skills. Ability to deliver a presentation targeted to client’s specific pain poInts. 
  • Experienced working simultaneously with a variety of stakeholders (Internal and external) as well as third-party client subcontractors, as appropriate.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to formulate abstract solutions in a constructive manner.
  • Proactive work ethic and self-motivation. Self-supportive and capable of target-oriented and structured work outputs.
  • Excellent time management skills in supporting at least 2 Architecture and or Technical leadership engagements simultaneously
  • Highly customer and service oriented.
  • Team-oriented approach to project work and problem solving – willingness to work closely with others and to mentor junior practice team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Proven innovator and track record of quickly adapting approaches /skill-set to meet the needs of changing technologies
